About the Study

Proyecto FACIL (Facilitating Access to Care in the Inland Empire and Los Angeles) is a research study funded by the California HIV/AIDS Research Program research study at USC’s Department of Population and Public Health Sciences that assesses the California Department of Public Health’s PrEP Assistance Program (PrEP-AP) and the ways in which lower income Latinx folx in Los Angeles and the Inland Empire can access pre-exposure prophylaxis offered via telemedicine, otherwise known as telePrEP.

Our Goal: To identify ways to improve enrollment of individuals to PrEP AP via telemedicine among Latinx men who have sex with men and transwomen.

What is PrEP-AP?

The California Department of Public Health offers the PrEP Assistance Program to help cover medical costs related to getting PrEP. The program works to increase PrEP access and uptake to prevent new HIV infections among eligible Californians put at risk. PrEP-AP provides assistance to insured and underinsured individuals at little to no cost! Our study is looking to improve this program!

What is PrEP?

PrEP, or Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis is medicine for people who don’t have HIV to prevent HIV infection. When taken everyday, PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV by 99%. PrEP is commonly covered by most insurance plans. Options for low/no cost coverage, with or without insurance, are available.
